How To Choose A Topic For Your Publication

Labels:

First start with what you already know and are passionate about. Choose something that you are very knowledgeable about or have work experience in. What types of books, magazine articles and other literature do you read?

Second begin your research on that topic go to the top search engines (Google, Yahoo, Altavista and AskJeeves), get your content together. My experience has been on search engines to go through the first five results on that page and if you are real tenacious go through the first twenty.

Third take keywords/phrases from your topic and do a search on http://inventory.overture.com to see what people are most interested in. If this word or phrase has been searched by more than 30,000 people then this is a topic or area you want to pursue.

Fourth Subscribe to ezines, magazines and other publications in your area of interest. Read books, magazines, newspapers, journals and reports on your topics.

Fifth look for niche topics, uncontrollable situations, problematic situations, issues people have no one has addressed or at least it is not in publication (meaning out of print).

Sixth in conversations listen to what topics people are searching for and, have not found a publication on. It may be a topic you have been searching for and have not found a publication on. However it comes to you USE IT! Once you have your topic stick with it, nurture it and develop it.

Seventh never, never, never give up. I started this journey in 1990 with a dream and a thought. I then began to act on that dream and thought in 1996 with classes and research. I then took it to the next level in 2002 and the last four years have been getting to the level I am at now with research, countless hours on the computer and financial set backs.

I read this quote and it was really inspiring “Inform yourself through research. Thorough research may take up to one year, but statistics show that entrepreneurs success in a venture correlates directly to the amount of time spent researching a venture.”

The steps I suggest above may sound like a lot of work but the reward is good content with credibility and a road to wealth and success. You are guaranteed to outshine your competition with your knowledge and hard work.
